Effect of Liming Fertilization on Changes in Medium pH , Nutrient Concentrations , and Seed Germination of ¢¥ Potomac Red ¢¥ Snapdragon in Plug Production



Abstract
The objective of this research was to determine the effect of two liming fertilizers such as dolomite and calcium carbonate on change in medium pH and seed germination of snapdragon ¢¥Potomac Red¢¥. The medium pH increased rapidly in the treatments of calcium carbonate and then maintained until 10 days after sowing. However, those in the treatments of dolomite increased gradually until 10 days after sowing. In the treatments of 2.0 and 2.5 gL^(-1) calcium carbonate, pHs showed 5.8 and 6.1, respectively. In the treatment of 3.5 gL^(-1) dolomite, pH showed 5.4 at the time of sowing and increased to 5.8 at 10 days after sowing. Electrical conductivities (EC) in all treatments of dolomite and calcium carbonate were about 1.3 mS¡¤§¯^(-1). Treatments of calcium carbonate had higher Ca and lower Mg concentrations in root media than those of dolomite. Treatments of calcium carbonate had higher percentage and uniformity in germination than those of dolomite.
